[L. squama a scale + penna a fin: cf. F. squamipenne.] (Zol.) Any one of a group of fishes having the dorsal and anal fins partially covered with scales.

They are compressed and mostly, bright-colored tropical fishes, belonging to Chtodon and allied genera. Many of them are called coral fishes, and angel fishes.
